15-year-old Amanda Whaley is making a name for herself at Del. International Speedway DELMAR — At 15, Amanda Whaley is not legally allowed to drive on the highway, but that hasn’t stopped her from zooming past the competition on the dirt track of Delaware International Speedway in the late model division races. The Millsboro native has yet to capture a checkered flag, but she definitely has caught the attention of just about everyone at the track. “In the beginning of the year, when Dad told me that I was going to run in the super late model, I was actually more nervous than anything,” Whaley said. “The first race that I went to out there, I didn’t think that I was going to do so great because I’m not use to driving something that fast. But it just came to me so fast. I just jumped right into it, and I’ve been doing great since then. That’s the crazy thing.”

By Nate Ryan, USA TODAY The International Race of Champions series disappeared four years ago, but the Prelude to the Dream is emerging as a worthy successor for pitting all-stars from racing’s divergent disciplines. The exhibition race at Eldora Speedway on Wednesday night will feature champions from NASCAR, IndyCar, motocross, rally racing, ARCA, the World of Outlaws and the NHRA.The 25 drivers in the 30-lap feature will represent more than 60 titles and 696 victories across more than 20 circuits. There’ll be nothing at stake other than bragging rights, but that’s enough to draw a stellar field for the sixth edition of the charity event organized by Tony Stewart. Read More…

After 62 years of racing, he can’t bring himself to retire to his front porch. “you can’t fish seven days a week.” No one can accuse Farmer of being a couch potato. Not only has he been driving non-stop for decades, he has done it — and continues to do it — with an assortment of ailments that would lay low much younger drivers. He has continued to race year after year through shoulder and knee replacement surgery, surgery on his arm, screws in his back, prostate cancer. And that’s just the more recent stuff. He also survived the 1993 helicopter crash that killed Davey Allison. Read More…

Thunder Raceway – 1st race of the season. Welcome race fans, Show Low Arizona and DirtCars.com proudly present to you the 1st race of the 2010 racing season at Thunder Raceway! Non winged Sprint cars and mini sprints. A windy day show, that also helped dry out the track. We named this race the dust bowl. It was just a nice relaxing afternoon at our local dirt track, my father and I parked in the first parking space and waited about 15 minutes before getting in line at the gate, we were the second race fans in line. The ticket sales were to open at 11:00 a.m. however, about 11:30 someone at the back of the line was tired of standing there so long after getting to the track early, so he went down to the pit gate and voiced his dissatisfaction. Three minutes later they were selling tickets. I shot the following clips with my Flip video recorder, although a little fuzzy you get a taste of how it went. From packing the track, hot laps, heat races then the main events. I did not record complete races but I learned a lot for next time.
