Pops & Ron’s dirt track racing adventures…

It all started in the summer of 1979 in a go-kart on dirt and then moving up to our very first stock-car in  1980.  We had some very fast times.  As I remember it the go-kart track was in the orange groves just north of bell rd. (Glendale AZ.)  We built stock-cars and raced in Yuma AZ, El Centro CA, the famous Manzanita speedway, Tucson AZ, Casa Grande AZ, Canyon raceway, Firebird raceway park was a lot of fun!  In the latter years we raced at Thunder raceway in northern AZ, two tracks in Missouri and one in Kansas.  We had a great run and even won a few times.  Looking back I feel that every night we raced we were winners, we finished 99% of the races we were in.  Mainly due to the fact that Pops would insist on perfection.  If something diden’t look quite right, we would change it.  Our working race week started on Sunday, after a Saturday night race.  We never showed up at the track working on the car and fixing last minute stuff, Pops always had us ready to go racing.  Pops is one helluva crew chief.  (thanks Pops).

IN THE HISTORY BOOKS

These pictures are from our photo album and remind me that even on a very small scale, we were making history.  Our racing times are now an actual part of history.  We can’t change anything, we can’t go back and re-due decisions we made but I know for a fact we are happy with the way it is.  We are very proud to be a part of dirt track racing in America!  Enjoy the slides.

Dirt track racing is where it all begins for 99% of race car drivers.  We encourage you to visit your local dirt track and have a blast!  Thanks for stopping by DirtCars.com
