15-year-old Amanda Whaley is making a name for herself at Del. International Speedway

DELMAR — At 15, Amanda Whaley is not legally allowed to drive on the highway, but that hasn’t stopped her from zooming past the competition on the dirt track of Delaware International Speedway in the late model division races.
The Millsboro native has yet to capture a checkered flag, but she definitely has caught the attention of just about everyone at the track.
“In the beginning of the year, when Dad told me that I was going to run in the super late model, I was actually more nervous than anything,” Whaley said. “The first race that I went to out there, I didn’t think that I was going to do so great because I’m not use to driving something that fast. But it just came to me so fast. I just jumped right into it, and I’ve been doing great since then. That’s the crazy thing.”
